HOW TO OPTIMIZE BULLET POINTS

Optimizing the bullet points in your resume means making them as effective as possible. Since you don't have lot of space, but you probably have a lot of experience, you want to make every bullet count. I've outlined four simple ways to optimize the bullet points in your resume.

1. Optimize responsibilities with accomplishments.

Employers know that certain core responsibilities are associated with job titles. If your resume reads exactly like the job description, it won't stand out. When you can, qualify a responsibility with an accomplishment.

2. Optimize an accomplishment by explaining how you did it and what impact it made on the organization.

Accomplishments are great, but they are meaningful if you explain how you did it and how it helped others.

3. Optimize important keywords and phrases by bolding them.

If you want something to stand out in your resume, use bold. However, if you bold too many things, nothing will stand out. In this example, the task is not relevant to the job (processing manufacturing orders) but I bolded "using attention to detail" because that was a desired skill according to the job posting. This is a great example of how to write your resume if you are changing careers.

4. Identify an important soft skill or keyword from the job posting, then optimize it with an tangible example.
